ANUBHUTI

Inculcating essential lifeskills among underserved kids through Kathak

DSC_0904_edited.jpg

Anubhuti which means an intense experience, is an initiative that aims to inculcate essential life skills such as confidence, leadership, teamwork, and creativity among kids from marginalised and under-served communities across India using Kathak as a medium. Since its inception in 2016, the Anubhuti workshops have been a transformative platform for the kids. This workshop uses a combination of Meditation, Yoga and Kathak allowing children to learn and explore this dance form while boosting a variety of life skills.

Where it all began?

In the beginning of her career, for first five years, Annu served as a commercial trainer to pass on the art of Kathak to the people of Delhi. Disillusioned and seeking more from her art, she began holding workshops for under-served kids belonging to marginalised communities of Bihar and Himachal Pradesh. The experience of working with these kids coming from bottommost sections of the society has been life-changing for her which ended up making her more grateful and humble for the skills and opportunities that she has been blessed with.

These transformative and soul-stirring experiences fueled her to dedicate her skills and time to travel to remote parts of the country in collaboration with non-profits and organisations working with under-served and marginalised communities on the ground.

In this workshop, I learnt to be responsible and disciplined person. I learned, Kathak is not just a classical dance. It is in fact a combination of punctuality, discipline, motivation and dedication.  I would love to continue performing Kathak and pass it on to others to create awareness in my surroundings.”

See What Our Host Organizations Has to Say :)

" Today was the most magical day. In Balatikra, Annu’s children performed exceptionally. When the sound of Ghunghroos surrounded by the hall, applauses naturally followed. Annu’s performance, as a gift from her to the children, was magnetic. The Adhikshika, Principal and Political leaders were overwhelmed that in a span of just a month children can perform so phenomenally and can speak confidently about the experience of learning Kathak. They appreciated Annu’s work and repeatedly thanked Shiksharth many times. The children looked so happy and yet I could see the brimming dream in their eyes to do and be good in life. Perhaps it is my most happiest day with my team today. I don’t know how can we thank Annu for being such a magic to children and Shiksharth. I hope we keep doing things like this in future for the children of Sukma. "
